What is Sade Sati?
Sade Sati ("seven and a half") is the period of roughly seven and a half years in which Saturn transits the three signs around your natal Moon - the 12th from it, the Moon's own sign, and the 2nd from it. Saturn spends about two and a half years in each sign, giving three phases:
- Rising (Udaya) - Saturn in the 12th from your Moon.
- Peak (Shikhar) - Saturn over your Moon sign.
- Setting (Asta) - Saturn in the 2nd from your Moon.
Shani Dhaiya (Kantak and Ashtama Shani)
Saturn's transit of the 4th or 8th sign from your Moon is called Dhaiya ("two and a half"). It is shorter than Sade Sati and is read separately, and this calculator reports it too.
How this calculator works
We find your Moon sign from your birth details, then follow Saturn's actual sidereal position day by day. Every date shown is the day Saturn really crossed into or out of a sign - including the extra crossings caused by Saturn's retrograde motion, which simple averages miss. If you do not know your birth time, we still answer whenever the Moon stayed in one sign for the whole day; if it changed sign that day, we ask for the time instead of guessing.
The free check shows the period running now. Your full lifetime Sade Sati and Dhaiya timeline is part of the Plus birth chart.
Is Sade Sati always difficult?
Not necessarily. Saturn is the planet of discipline, effort and lasting results, and its transit is commonly read as a time of responsibility and restructuring rather than misfortune. The outcome depends on Saturn's strength in your own chart and on your running dasha - which is why the same transit feels very different for different people.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if Sade Sati is running for me?
Sade Sati runs while Saturn transits the 12th sign from your natal Moon, your Moon sign itself, or the 2nd sign from it. Enter your birth details and this calculator finds your Moon sign and checks where Saturn is today.
How long does Sade Sati last?
About seven and a half years - roughly two and a half years in each of its three signs. Saturn's retrograde motion can make it cross a sign boundary more than once, and the dates shown here include those crossings.
What is the difference between Sade Sati and Shani Dhaiya?
Sade Sati covers Saturn's transit of the three signs around your Moon. Dhaiya is Saturn's shorter, roughly two-and-a-half-year transit of the 4th or the 8th sign from your Moon. This calculator reports both.
Do I need my birth time?
Not always. Sade Sati depends only on your Moon sign. If the Moon stayed in one sign for your whole birth date, the date and place are enough; if it changed sign that day, we ask for your birth time rather than guess.
