The Metallic Pi Yao — also known as Pi Xiu or Pi Kan — is one of the most celebrated protective and wealth-attracting creatures in Chinese Feng Shui tradition. This mythical winged creature is depicted with a powerful body and a mouth open to receive abundance, yet no visible hindquarters, symbolising that what enters does not leave — a traditional metaphor for wealth accumulation.
The metallic finish is traditionally associated with strength and durability in Feng Shui elemental theory. The Pi Yao is believed to be especially effective when positioned facing outward from the home — toward a window or main entrance — where it is thought to intercept and neutralise negative energies while drawing in auspicious chi. Many practitioners place it near financial records or in the wealth sector of a room.
In Feng Shui cosmology, the Pi Yao holds a unique position as a creature that is both a protector and a wealth-attractor — believed to be second only to the Feng Shui Dragon in potency. It is traditionally said to help mitigate the negative influence of the annual Grand Duke Jupiter (Tai Sui) energy, making it particularly valued during astrological years when Tai Sui may affect a person's natal sign. The metallic form is believed to amplify its capacity to hold and circulate abundant energy within a space.
