On the night of Friday, 9 October 2026, retrograde Saturn moves back from Revati into Uttara Bhadrapada, a nakshatra ruled by Saturn itself, and stays there until Monday, 8 February 2027. Saturn does not change sign: it stays in Pisces. What changes is the nakshatra, and for people born under Kark rashi that shifts the tara bala of all three of its nakshatras. Two of them gain; one is asked for restraint.
These are sidereal (Lahiri) positions from our own ephemeris, given as dates rather than clock times: for a planet as slow as Saturn, published panchangs differ by up to an hour on the moment of a change, and nothing in a reading depends on the hour. Follow Saturn day by day in the planetary transit calendar.
Saturn is retrograde from 26 July to 11 December 2026. It is not actually reversing. The Earth, on its faster inner orbit, is overtaking it, and for a few months that makes Saturn appear to drift backwards against the stars. The overtaking is closest on Monday, 5 October, when Saturn is at opposition: nearest to the Earth, brightest, and up all night. Four days later, still moving backwards, it slips out of Revati and back into Uttara Bhadrapada, the nakshatra it had left in May.
What retrograde Saturn means for each Moon sign, and how to use these months, is covered in Shani Vakri 2026. This post looks at the nakshatra change inside it.
Uttara Bhadrapada (Pisces 3°20′ to 16°40′) is ruled by Saturn, and its deity is Ahirbudhnya, the serpent of the deep waters. Tradition reads it as the nakshatra of patience, depth and quiet renunciation, which suits Saturn’s own temper. Revati, which Saturn leaves, is ruled by Mercury. For the next four months Saturn therefore sits in a nakshatra it owns, and its results are traditionally read as steadier and more inward: less about new beginnings, more about finishing and consolidating.
The sign does not change, so nothing that depends on Saturn’s sign changes either. Sade Sati still runs for Aquarius, Pisces and Aries Moon signs, and Dhaiya for Leo and Sagittarius; see what Shani Sade Sati is.
Pisces is the 9th house from Cancer: the house of fortune, father, teachers, dharma and long journeys. Kark rashi is in neither Sade Sati nor Dhaiya now; its Dhaiya, with Saturn in the 8th house in Aquarius, ended in March 2025.
Classical verdict: mixed. The gochar table counts Saturn as favourable only in the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses from the Moon, so the 9th is not a “good” Saturn house. It is a slow one. Results in matters of father, mentors, higher study and long journeys come late but tend to last. A course left half-done, or a plan to study or settle abroad, asks for steady effort rather than a shortcut.
From Pisces, Saturn’s 3rd, 7th and 10th aspects fall on Taurus, Virgo and Sagittarius: the 11th, 3rd and 6th houses from Cancer. These are upachaya houses, where Saturn’s pressure turns into results from effort: income through work, courage in your own initiatives, and the stamina to clear debts and disputes.
Tara bala measures a transit against your birth nakshatra (the Moon’s nakshatra at birth), not your sign. Count the nakshatras from your birth nakshatra to the one the planet occupies, counting your own as 1, and divide by 9. The remainder names the tara: 1 Janma, 2 Sampat, 3 Vipat, 4 Kshema, 5 Pratyari, 6 Sadhaka, 7 Vadha, 8 Mitra, 9 Param Mitra (a remainder of 0 counts as 9). Vipat, Pratyari and Vadha are the difficult taras; Janma asks for care; the rest are supportive.
Kark rashi holds the last quarter of Punarvasu and all of Pushya and Ashlesha. Saturn’s move from Revati to Uttara Bhadrapada changes the count for each of them by one.
Counted from Punarvasu, Revati is the 21st nakshatra (Vipat tara) and Uttara Bhadrapada the 20th (Sampat tara). This is the clearest gain of the three. Money that was held up and work that was stuck tend to move again. Use the months to finish what you started rather than to open new fronts.
Pushya is Saturn’s own nakshatra, and counted from it Revati is the 20th (Sampat) and Uttara Bhadrapada the 19th (Janma tara). Janma tara is not a disaster; it asks for care with the body and the mind. Watch health, sleep and mental strain, keep routines steady, and do not take big decisions in a hurry until Saturn returns to Revati on 8 February 2027.
Counted from Ashlesha, Revati is the 19th (Janma) and Uttara Bhadrapada the 18th (Param Mitra, the most supportive tara). Relationships and cooperation ease, help arrives from people you trust, and an old burden tends to lighten.

The nakshatra change is a prelude. On Thursday, 3 June 2027 Saturn enters Aries, the 10th house from Cancer: the house of career and public responsibility. Saturn in the 10th from the Moon is a demanding transit, bringing more responsibility, more scrutiny and results that depend on discipline. It turns retrograde there and slips back into Pisces on Wednesday, 20 October 2027 before settling. The four months in Uttara Bhadrapada are the time to prepare: finish courses, settle accounts and build the habits a heavier workload will need.
The traditional Saturn practices are simple: light a mustard-oil lamp under a peepal tree on Saturday evenings, recite the Hanuman Chalisa or the Dashratha Shani Stotra, give black sesame, urad or a blanket in charity, and serve elders and people who work with their hands. The Shani mantra is Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah, and the Shani Dev aarti is sung on Saturdays. They are practices that steady the mind, not guarantees.
When does Saturn change nakshatra in October 2026?
On the night of Friday, 9 October 2026, retrograde Saturn moves from Revati back into Uttara Bhadrapada, in the sidereal zodiac Vedic astrology uses. It stays there until Monday, 8 February 2027.
Does Saturn change sign on 9 October?
No. Saturn stays in Pisces until Thursday, 3 June 2027. Only the nakshatra changes, so Sade Sati and Dhaiya are unchanged.
Is this good for Kark rashi?
Mixed, leaning constructive. Saturn in the 9th from Cancer is slow rather than harsh, and its aspects fall on Cancer’s 3rd, 6th and 11th houses, where effort pays. By tara bala, Punarvasu and Ashlesha natives gain and Pushya natives are asked for restraint.
What is tara bala?
A count from your birth nakshatra to the nakshatra a planet occupies, counting your own as 1, divided by 9. The remainder gives one of nine taras: Janma, Sampat, Vipat, Kshema, Pratyari, Sadhaka, Vadha, Mitra and Param Mitra.
Why is Saturn moving backwards?
Because the Earth is overtaking it on its faster orbit. Saturn is retrograde from 26 July to Friday, 11 December 2026, and was closest to the Earth on Monday, 5 October.
