The Ruby (Manikya) Rosary is a two-string mala crafted from natural ruby beads, combining an estimated 40 to 50 carats of ruby across the strand. Ruby, known as Manikya in Sanskrit, is one of the most revered gemstones in the Vedic tradition, prized for its deep red colour and the fiery vitality it is believed to embody. A two-string design provides additional weight and presence, making this mala suitable both for devotional japa and as a piece worn close to the body during spiritual practice.
Traditionally, a Ruby Mala is used for chanting solar mantras such as the Aditya Hridayam or the Surya Beej Mantra. Devotees often hold each bead as they recite their mantra count, using the mala to anchor focus and intention. It is also kept on a personal altar or placed in the puja space as an offering to the Sun.
In Vedic astrology, Ruby (Manikya) is the primary gemstone of the Sun (Surya), the sovereign among the Navagrahas. The Sun governs the soul, authority, vitality, and one's sense of self. A Ruby Mala is traditionally associated with strengthening a weakly placed Sun in the birth chart. It is believed to be especially supportive for those whose horoscope shows the Sun in Cancer, Libra, or afflicted by malefic aspects. Individuals born under Leo (Simha Rashi) or with Leo as their ascendant are traditionally considered suited to Manikya. A qualified Vedic astrologer should be consulted before adopting a Ruby Mala as a remedial measure.
