How to Do Shree Ganesh Ji Aarti: A Comprehensive Guide

The ritual gateway - why Ganesh aarti opens every act of worship

Ganesha is revered across all Hindu traditions as Vighnaharta - the remover of obstacles - and as Prathamapujya, the one who is worshipped before all others. This is why Shree Ganesh Ji Ki Aarti serves not only as a standalone act of devotion but as the ceremonial key that unlocks every other ritual: no pooja, no yajna, no auspicious beginning is considered properly inaugurated without first invoking Ganesha's presence and his blessing. The aarti evokes the rasa of shanta blended with adbhuta - serene confidence in the knowledge that with Ganesha's grace, no genuine endeavour need fail.

In practical sadhana, performing Ganesh aarti daily - ideally at dawn or at the outset of any significant task - is understood by devotees as a way of consecrating one's intentions and surrendering the outcome to a wisdom greater than one's own. The ritual of circling a flame before Ganesha's image while the aarti is sung is itself instructive: the flame illuminates all sides without clinging to any, just as Ganesha's grace is understood to be universal and impartial. In the Jyotish tradition, Ganesha is associated with the planet Ketu, the south lunar node, whose energy governs liberation from past entanglement - and devotees who seek clarity and forward movement in their lives often turn to Ganesh aarti as their first and most trusted resource.
