Chopda puja and Lakshmi-Ganesh worship
Labh means gain and saubhagya good fortune, and the day is dedicated to both. Traders who did not perform the chopda puja on Diwali do it now: the new account books are marked with a swastika and the words Shubh and Labh, and placed before Lakshmi and Ganesha. A simple order of worship:
- Clean the shop or the puja corner and set up images of Ganesha and Lakshmi.
- Worship Ganesha first, with durva grass, modak or laddoo and a lamp.
- Worship Lakshmi with lotus or red flowers, kumkum, rice and sweets, following the Lakshmi puja vidhi.
- Place the new account books before them, draw the swastika and write Shubh-Labh, then make the first entry.
- Close with the Lakshmi aarti and share prasad.
