Mangal Chandika Stotram (मंगल चण्डिका स्तोत्रम्) is a powerful Sanskrit hymn to Goddess Mangala Chandika — a benevolent yet protective form of Adi Shakti (Maa Durga). Recorded in the Brahmavaivarta Purana and the Devi Bhagavata Purana, it was first recited by Bhagwan Shiva himself to invoke the Goddess's grace, protection and mangal (auspiciousness). It is recited above all on Tuesdays (Mangalvar).
"Mangal" means auspiciousness — and also the planet Mars (Mangal Graha); "Chandika" is the radiant, fierce-yet-loving form of the Mother Goddess who is the source of all wellbeing. The hymn appears in the Prakriti Khanda of the Brahmavaivarta Purana and in the ninth Skandha of the Devi Bhagavata. In it, Lord Shiva, caught in difficulty, praises the Goddess as the remover of every misfortune and the giver of every auspiciousness — and the Purana tells us that whoever then worships her with this stotram is forever blessed with mangal.
The Goddess Chandika is described in the Durga Saptashati as Chamunda, and is revered as the combined power of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati — which is why the stotram is valued for protection, prosperity and peace alike.
In the devotional tradition, sincere recitation (paath) of the Mangal Chandika Stotram is believed to bring:
These are matters of faith and tradition; the stotram is a spiritual practice and is not a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.
