Meaning
These mantras invoke prosperity, abundance and merit on Akshaya Tritiya. The Lakshmi mool and Mahalakshmi mantras call upon the Goddess of wealth - “seated on the lotus, O lotus-dweller, be gracious, be gracious” - to bless the devotee. The Lakshmi-Narayana mantra honours the divine couple of wealth and sustenance together. The Kubera mantra addresses the treasurer of the gods: “O Yaksha Kubera, Vaishravana, lord of wealth and grain, grant me, bestow upon me, abundance of wealth and grain.” The Ghat Daan mantra accompanies the gift of a water-pot of merit (the “pot of dharma, embodiment of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva”) offered for the satisfaction of the ancestors, that its fruit may be akshaya - never-diminishing.

How to Chant (Vidhi)
Rise early, bathe, and set up the puja facing east or north. Cleanse and place an image or coin of Lakshmi (and Kubera). Light a ghee lamp and incense, offer flowers, kumkum, akshata, fruits and sweets. Invoke Ganesha first, then recite the Lakshmi mool and Mahalakshmi mantras 108 times using a tulsi or lotus-seed mala, followed by the Kubera mantra. Many devotees purchase gold or begin a new account or venture after the puja. To complete the day’s merit, perform daan - give a kalash (pot) of water, grain, sattu, fruit or gold to a deserving person or a brahmana while reciting the Ghat Daan mantra. Conclude with aarti.
