Lal Kitab, "the red book", is a North Indian astrology system known for plain language and simple, low-cost remedies. Its best-known editions were published in Urdu between 1939 and 1952 and are associated with Pandit Roop Chand Joshi. It uses the same planets as Vedic astrology but reads them differently, through a chart called the teva and a set of nine planetary debts called rin.
In a Vedic kundli, the rising sign changes which sign sits in the first house. In a Lal Kitab teva, the houses are fixed to the signs: Aries is always the 1st house, Taurus the 2nd, and so on to Pisces as the 12th. Your planets are placed by the house number from the Vedic chart.

Lal Kitab upay are usually small: feeding animals or birds, donating an everyday item linked to a planet, offering something to flowing water, or keeping or avoiding certain objects at home. Most cost little.

What is Lal Kitab in simple words?
A North Indian astrology system that explains a chart in everyday terms and suggests small, low-cost remedies.
Is Lal Kitab part of Vedic astrology?
It uses the same planets but has its own rules, such as fixed houses and planetary debts, so it is usually treated as a separate school.
What is a rin in Lal Kitab?
A debt: an unpaid obligation that certain planetary positions are said to show, and which remedies aim to balance.
Do Lal Kitab remedies work for everyone?
No honest astrologer promises that. They are meant to support your own effort, not replace it.
Do I need my birth time for a teva?
Yes. House placements come from your birth chart, so an accurate birth time matters.
