Yogini Ekadashi is one of the most spiritually rewarding fasts (vrat) of the Hindu year, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Observed in the Krishna Paksha (waning phase) of the Ashadha month, it is believed to wash away sins, free the devotee from suffering and disease, and bless the home with peace and prosperity. The scriptures describe its merit as equal to feeding 88,000 Brahmins. Here is your complete guide to Yogini Ekadashi 2026 — the date, shubh muhurat, paran timing, vrat vidhi, the vrat katha, and the mantra and aarti of Lord Vishnu.
According to the Vedic Panchang, the Ashadha Krishna Ekadashi tithi in 2026 is as follows:
| Ekadashi tithi begins | Friday, 10 July 2026 at 08:15 AM |
|---|---|
| Ekadashi tithi ends | Saturday, 11 July 2026 at 05:23 AM |
| Vrat for householders (grihastha) | Friday, 10 July 2026 |
| Vrat for Vaishnava devotees | Saturday, 11 July 2026 |
Since the tithi ends soon after sunrise on 11 July, as per shastra householders (grihastha) keep the fast on Friday, 10 July 2026, while devotees of the Vaishnava tradition observe it on 11 July.
These windows are considered especially auspicious for Vishnu puja, japa (mantra chanting) and meditation.
The Ekadashi fast is broken on the next day (Dwadashi) within the prescribed paran window. For Yogini Ekadashi 2026, the paran time is Saturday, 11 July 2026, from 01:50 PM to 04:57 PM. Offer prayers to Lord Vishnu, then break the fast within this period — ideally after giving food or dakshina to a Brahmin or someone in need.
Yogini Ekadashi is revered as a great remover of sins (paap-nashini). It is said that whoever observes this fast with faith is freed from the burden of past misdeeds, is relieved of ailments and misfortune, and is blessed with good health, wealth and, ultimately, liberation (moksha). Because Lord Vishnu is the preserver of the universe, worshipping Him on this Ekadashi is believed to bring stability, protection and grace into one’s life.
In the beautiful city of Alakapuri ruled Kubera, the lord of wealth and a devoted worshipper of Lord Shiva. In his service was a yaksha named Hem Mali, whose daily duty was to bring fresh flowers from the Manasarovar lake for Kubera’s worship of Shiva. Hem Mali loved his wife dearly, and one day, lost in her company, he forgot his duty and arrived late for the puja.
Enraged that his worship had been delayed, Kubera cursed Hem Mali to be afflicted with leprosy, separated from his beloved wife, and banished from Alakapuri. Suffering greatly, Hem Mali wandered the earth until he reached the Himalayan ashram of the sage Markandeya. With his divine insight, the compassionate sage understood Hem Mali’s plight and advised him to observe the Yogini Ekadashi fast with complete devotion.
Hem Mali kept the vrat exactly as instructed. By its power, his leprosy was cured, he was reunited with his wife, and his former joy and dignity were restored. Since then, Yogini Ekadashi has been honoured as the fast that removes sin, cures disease, and returns well-being to the devotee.
