The birth chart (D1) shows whether marriage is promised; the Navamsa, or D9, shows how that promise matures. Each sign is divided into nine parts of 3°20', and the sign a planet falls into within that division becomes its Navamsa position. Because the parts are small, the D9 depends heavily on a correct birth time.

The Manglik dosha calculator checks the position of Mars from three reference points: the Lagna (ascendant), the Moon and Venus. A chart can be Manglik from one point and not from another, which is why the three are checked separately. It then looks for the named classical cancellations, the conditions the texts describe as reducing or removing the dosha, such as Mars in its own or exaltation sign, or Jupiter aspecting Mars, and names the ones that apply to your chart. The calculator is free, but it needs your birth time, because the Lagna changes roughly every two hours.
When you are weighing a specific proposal, kundli matching goes a step further. It gives the 36-guna Ashtakoota score with all eight kootas shown one by one, from Varna to Nadi, and it shows the Manglik status of both partners side by side. Krishnamurti Paddhati (KP) asks a narrower question than a classical reading: is marriage promised, and when? It judges this from a group of houses rather than the 7th alone - the 2nd for the family growing by one, the 7th for the partner, and the 11th for a wish fulfilled.
The deciding factor is the sub-lord of the 7th cusp. If that sub-lord signifies houses 2, 7 and 11, KP reads marriage as promised; if it leans toward houses that oppose the matter, such as the 6th, 10th or 12th, KP reads delay or denial. Timing then comes from dasha lords that signify the same 2-7-11 group.

Hindu tradition fixes the wedding on a vivah muhurat, a period judged auspicious from the tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana of the day, while avoiding certain months and planetary conditions, such as Venus or Jupiter being combust.
